On Friday afternoon the JSRC met with the West Point Cadets at the Loews Theater. Patti Giordan, from Loews, spoke about the history of the theater and Chris Bernardo, SID Operations Manager, talked about the revitalization effort and the future of the square. P.O. Vinny Corso keeps an eye out for panhandling and drug sales in and around the area of McDonald's during this afternoon's 3pm-7pm SID police detail.
Sgt. Mitch Schnee led a group of officers today during the JCPD's Titan detail, which focused on Journal Square and other areas of the North District. The Titan program puts 8-10 officers in specific areas of the city during key times of the day to focus on hot spots. Today, Mitch's crew focused on traffic enforcement in front of the plaza area.

The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency met this morning with stakeholders from Journal Square to begin plans for a renewed partnership that would help property owners, business owners and the City upgrade signage and facades in the Square.

According to a PA employee this morning the man-hole cover in front of 1-7 JSQ produced a tiny explosion that sent the concrete cover (shown below) into the air about 2 feet. PA Police, along with Charlie Trombetta and I investigated the scene and determined that PSE&G should be contacted. Charlie had his staff secure the area with barricades and I reported the situtation to the PSE&G Emergency Customer Support Department ( report #2637, agent name Marc Moore.)
Thursday's Grand Re-opening at North Fork Bank featured a wide variety of tasty food prepared and served by students at HCCC's Culinary Arts Institute, as well as a visit from Jersey City Mayor, Jerramiah Healy!
