Mugged by 2 men on way home from bank

Wednesday, January 04, 2006
A 56-year-old Sip Avenue man was mugged after a trip to a nearby bank yesterday morning, police said.

West District Police officers responded to the victim's apartment building around 9:53 a.m. yesterday, where they found him bleeding from the chin and mouth, reports said.

He told police that he had withdrawn $750 from the Independence Community Bank in the PATH Plaza, stopped at McDonald's to pick up breakfast, and then was about to enter his building from the side entrance when he was grabbed by two or three men, reports said.

He said the men pulled the knit cap he was wearing down over his face and then punched him in the face until he agreed to hand over all his money.

A security camera may have captured the image of one of the attackers as he fled north on Enos Place, reports said.

The victim was treated at the scene, then taken to Christ Hospital for evaluation, reports said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
