Dunkin Donuts: Vagrant Removed From Dining Area

1_23_vagrant.jpg The vagrant illustrated to the left was escorted out of Dunkin Donuts by Ambassador Jamal Robinson and myself at the request of the Manager. The Manager had indicated that he had not made a purchase and that he had taken a coffee cup out of the garbage to make it appear as though he bought something. P.O. Dave Rogers from the S.I.D detail was contacted by me for assistance but the actor moved-on quickly, before the P.O. could arrive...police response time was less than 5 minutes. I have asked the Manager at Dunkin Donuts to place a sign in the dining area indicating that seating is for customers only, currently he does not have such a sign posted anywhere.

Predators! 8-on-1 mugging caught on video

By JASON DEL REY
JOURNAL STAFF WRITER
In a frightening depiction of the current state of youth violence, the Jersey City Police Department released footage yesterday of last week's mugging of a Newark Avenue man by a mob of eight teen-aged thugs.

Cops had set up surveillance of Newark Avenue between Kennedy Boulevard and Tonnelle Avenue about 7 p.m. Thursday in response to a string of robberies by juveniles.

"We had eight robberies in that area in 28 days," said Capt. Kenneth Teschlog, commander of the Street Crime Unit. "Many of the robberies were committed by juveniles wearing dark clothes and dark hoodies."

The video, displayed yesterday for a group of television news channels and The Jersey Journal, was captured by a closed-circuit security camera, Teschlog said.

In the video, the teens, all wearing dark sweatshirts with hoods pulled over their heads, follow the unsuspecting 26-year-old victim as he walks on Newark Avenue toward Tonnelle Avenue. When the man crosses the street, they follow, halting traffic in the process.

Then, as the man turns onto Tonnelle, one boy rolls up his sleeves and signals to the others, and they all close in on the victim, punching him and then shoving him against a wall.

The cops on surveillance then swarm in, sending the teens scattering in all directions. The video ends with a plainclothes cop tackling one of the fleeing teens.

"Cops are out there 24-7 and people that are going to prey. will never know when six or eight cops are watching what they're doing," Teschlog said. "That's the message."

Teschlog said investigators are still interviewing victims of past robberies in the area to determine if they are linked.

Mugged by 2 men on way home from bank

Wednesday, January 04, 2006
A 56-year-old Sip Avenue man was mugged after a trip to a nearby bank yesterday morning, police said.

West District Police officers responded to the victim's apartment building around 9:53 a.m. yesterday, where they found him bleeding from the chin and mouth, reports said.

He told police that he had withdrawn $750 from the Independence Community Bank in the PATH Plaza, stopped at McDonald's to pick up breakfast, and then was about to enter his building from the side entrance when he was grabbed by two or three men, reports said.

He said the men pulled the knit cap he was wearing down over his face and then punched him in the face until he agreed to hand over all his money.

A security camera may have captured the image of one of the attackers as he fled north on Enos Place, reports said.

The victim was treated at the scene, then taken to Christ Hospital for evaluation, reports said.

Police are still investigating the incident.
